OCTOBER 13 - 15, 2016
HOTEL DEL CORONADO, CORONADO, CA
Hi, I'm Howard Lindzon, founder and Chairman of StockTwits, and we would love to host you at our 2016 Stocktoberfest. This year we are celebrating the active and passive investors that have pushed US Markets to all-time highs. Active investors make the world more interesting and fun, and passive Investing is exploding in assets. We plan on discussing these trends and the opportunities they present.
Our great lineup of speakers, panelists and moderators will be sharing their favorite tactics, strategies and ideas, so make sure you are rested and ready to profit.
This year we have partnered with Modern Trader to bring together the biggest group of Active Investors and Traders in its FIVE year history. We will be discussing the global macro environment, tactics, strategies and the products that make this one of the greatest periods in history to invest and trade for yourself.
We also continue to focus on investing for profit AND joy. We have leading CEOs, traders, and investors discussing technology trends, global macro opportunities, and strategies. Everyone will leave our event ready to improve their results in 2017 and beyond with the added benefit of an improved network of friends. I call this the smart 'peloton' of investing.
Whether you're interested in stock trading, fintech, apps, networking, or just need an excuse to enjoy the incredible San Diego beaches, Stocktoberfest is an event you should attend!

Clear your calendar - Stocktoberfest kicks off on Thursday, October 13! The Tavern (1310 Orange Avenue, Coronado) is our meeting spot for a night of networking and mingling. Join us for drinks, heavy appetizers, and networking.
Over 5,000 charts are shared each day on the StockTwits streams. There is an addictive component to chart watching and studying patterns. Charts capture the real-time and historical behavioral patterns of investors and traders.
Xignite founder Stephane Dubois sits down to talk about building a successful data startup and the power of APIs. Xignite powers StockTwits data.
I love my one on one time with Villi Itchev (@villispeaks). Villi and I met 5 years ago when he was running the investment team at Salesforce. Salesforce has always been kind to my portfolio. Villi has a great depth of knowledge around enterprise companies and a good feel for stocks. He helped me understand the upside potential of Zendesk and Shopify at much lower prices (I own them both).
Savneet Singh (founder of Gold Bullion International) thinks he can drag a bunch of great insights out of me so I have agreed to sit with him to chat about trends in the markets and consumer spending as well as the private markets and the boom in Finch investing.
I am fascinated with Global Macro and Trend Investing. It seems like all the best blowups happen in this space. Global macro is an investment strategy based on the interpretation and prediction of large-scale events related to national economies, history, and international relations. The strategy typically employs forecasts and analysis of interest rate trends, international trade and payments, political changes, government policies, inter-government relations, and other broad systemic factors. This year we have plenty of Macro Events to stress over including negative interest rates and the US election.
Morgan is a favorite follow and read of mine. He likes to think and invest slow. He is a senior analyst at The Motley Fool and writes for the Wall Street Journal. I do not hold either against him. He has nothing against active investing other than all the data showing how harmful it can be to your long term financial health and the potential for an incredible waste of time! I plan to set him straight.
The active vs. passive argument never fades. Today, passive investing has never been more popular. The shift to passive is accelerating. Vanguard alone owns 5 percent of all the US securities traded and SIX asset management firms control most of our banks. Our panel is led by Eddy Elfenbein (@eddyelfenbein), Cullen Roche (@cullenroche) and Tadas Viskanta (@abnormalreturns) discuss the active versus passive phenomenon.
They will cover all the following:
The future trends...what are key startups signaling? I am excited to sit down with the founders of three very fast growing startups in very exciting industries.
As "real" moves from bricks and mortars to clicks, Narvar is well positioned to profit. Amit Sharma knows all about the biggest trend on earth.
Vinny Lingham is the founder of Civic and knows more about bitcoin, the blockchain and identity than just about anyone. We sit down to talk about our identity in a global, social and mobile world.
Finally, Josh Viner of Wag! sits down with me to talk about the Uber-fication of dog walking. Wag! is capitalizing on so many trends to revolutionize the pet-owning industry.
Anton Zajac is the founder of ESET, a multi-billion dollar company founded in Bratislava in 1992. The company makes anti-virus and firewall products. Anton joins me to talk about his active investing life post ESET (he remains Chairman). I will chat with Anton about his life as an entrepreneur in a communist country and his move to the USA. We discuss how he built his company with NO investors and his current investment thesis which includes investing in startups, media and politics.
If you use StockTwits and Twitter during the trading day, you already know the amazing idea generation and news flow you can tap into for free. The more you invest in social, the more you get out. Our panel will talk about how they mine, curate, and manage the flows that come from social to make money. I like this post from StockTwits CEO Ian Rosen on 'social signal' which inspired this panel.
“…[social] feeds are like table stakes right now; Most hedge funds need to have it.” Santo Politi of Spark Capital
In just a few years, data from social conversation — as qualitative a measure in its raw form as any — went from a novelty to "must have" for funds that rely on obtaining an accurate view of the world. The crowdsourcing of information, usually implied in price movements, has been effectively extracted and isolated as a leading indicator.
At the root of all markets are people, and to understand what’s going to happen with prices is to understand how people, and the machines they guide, make decisions. This is why the intelligence underneath social investing platforms is so important.
Panelists will include Matt Ober - Head of Data at WorldQuant
